From youth leadership training to launched ventures.
Young adults in Nakivale work through a six-module leadership course designed by Australian consultant Katrina Mellick, taking one module per month: principles and values; self-expression; strengths and contribution; collaborations; communication and management tools; and developing creative capacity. The inaugural course ran online in 2023, and 15 young adults completed it.
Phase II began in September 2024, when six emerging leaders designed their own projects. By early 2025, six ventures had launched: two children’s pastry-baking programs, a children’s arts project, a dress-making training program, a guinea-pig breeding farm, and a finance-literacy training program. Reviews were carried out in May 2025.
Seed funding for the ventures came from the Rotary Club of Mareeba.
